Grizzy & the Lemmings

A silent comedy about a bear and lemmings.

Grizzy & the Lemmings (French: Grizzy et les Lemmings) is a French animated children's comedy television series from Studio Hari, produced with France Télévisions and Boomerang. This silent comedy follows a brown grizzly bear named Grizzy, who loves food and staying home, and whose peaceful life is constantly disrupted by a group of blue-gray lemmings who crave excitement. The characters do not speak real dialogue, communicating only in gibberish. Bertrand Gatignol designed the three-dimensional characters, and Édouard Cellura designed the sets.

The series was first announced on 22 June 2015 and premiered internationally in fall 2016. A second season was confirmed on 5 July 2017, airing globally in 2018. Season 1 arrived on Netflix on 15 July 2019. That same year, Studio Hari announced a third season, titled Grizzy & the Lemmings: World Tour, which aired in 2021 and concluded on 15 March 2022. Season 4 ran from 15 May 2024 to 28 January 2025. Seasons 5 and 6 have both been greenlit, set to air in 2027 and 2029 respectively, each centered on a time travel theme.

The show takes place in Nutty Hill National Forest, a fictional Canadian park, at the hillside cabin of a forest ranger who is rarely seen. The park is home to various forest animals. Each day, after the ranger leaves for work, Grizzy sneaks into the cabin to enjoy its comforts—relaxing, watching TV, and snacking. However, a pack of mischievous blue-gray lemmings, all with similar personalities, constantly disturb his peace.

As Grizzy and the lemmings clash, they often use high-tech equipment or magical objects found in and around the cabin. The lemmings cause trouble, Grizzy tries to stop them, and their battles frequently spill onto a nearby highway, leading to high-speed chases. Almost every episode (except "Cabin, My Love") ends with both sides trapped in a comically bad and seemingly inescapable situation.

Grizzy, voiced by Pierre-Alain de Garrigues, is the bear co-protagonist. He has a brown body, a light brown fat stomach, and stands about two meters (6 feet 7 inches) tall. He wears a green locket and sandals that belonged to the forest ranger. In the cabin, he mostly sleeps on the sofa, watches TV, and eats salmon with Yummy XL chocolate spread. He enjoys the program "The Secret of the Salmon" and dislikes opera music, which sometimes appears when he changes channels. The lemmings are his

Reader's Guide

Grizzy & the Lemmings is set in Nutty Hill National Forest, a fictional park in Canada, at the hillside cabin of the park's mostly unseen forest ranger. The national park is primarily inhabited by various forest animals. When the ranger leaves for work each day, Grizzy, a grizzly bear, slips into the cabin and takes advantage of its numerous amenities, usually seeking to relax, watch television and snack. Unfortunately, he shares his house with a pack of rambunctious and mischief-making blue-gray lemmings that always disturb his peace. As Grizzy and the Lemmings are drawn into conflict, various pieces of high-tech equipment and sometimes magic objects in and around the cabin come into play. The battle invariably spills onto the passing highway, leading to high-speed chases in almost every episode. Almost every episode (aside from 'Cabin, My Love') ends in a comically bad ending for both sides as Grizzy and the Lemmings would be trapped in some sort of undesirable and apparently inescapable situation. The series is notable for its lack of real dialogue and its three-dimensional designs by Bertrand Gatignol for the characters and Édouard Cellura for the sets.
