Molang

Animated preschool series about a rabbit and a chick.

Molang is a preschool animated series produced by Millimages. Its main character, a rabbit named Molang, was created by South Korean illustrator Hye-Ji Yoon for the KakaoTalk messaging platform. The show’s look and animation draw heavily from the Japanese chibi style.

The story follows two best friends and roommates: Molang, a cheerful and optimistic rabbit, and Piu Piu, a shy, cautious chick. Together they face everyday problems and sitcom-like situations, as well as bigger, sometimes risky adventures. Molang (voiced by Bruno Guéraçague) is a white rabbit who turns ordinary moments into special ones, often getting the pair into trouble through its wholehearted efforts. Piu Piu (voiced by Nathalie Stas) is a little yellow chick who dislikes attention and tries to keep things under control, but gets easily unsettled by surprises. Their friends, the Pincos, are rabbits that look like Molang but have varied personalities—some friendly, some timid, some short-tempered.

The series first aired on Canal+ France on August 14, 2014. It has since produced five seasons, 321 episodes, and a music album, broadcasting in over 190 countries. Season 1 became available on Netflix on July 1, 2019. Season 5, consisting of 52 five-minute episodes, was announced in February 2020 and began airing on Canal+ on September 9, 2021. In the United Kingdom, the show airs on Tiny Pop; in Canada, on Treehouse TV; and in the United States, on Disney Jr. As of October 19, 2022, all episodes are available on Hopster Learning in the U.S.

A music album titled *Molang* was released on streaming platforms on April 1, 2020, and had been streamed over 40,000 times on Spotify and 20,000 times on iTunes by late April 2020. The EP *A Merry Molang Christmas* came out on November 18, 2020. On May 31, 2023, a Molang YouTube channel launched, featuring reaction, challenge, and gaming videos. On December 8, 2023, the virtual K-pop band M4P debuted with the song “Whatever You Want,” consisting of five members: Molang (leader), Piu Piu, Shiny Pinco, Moody Pinco, and Sweetie Pinco.

As a merchandising brand, Molang uses the tagline “My Best Friend.” It has two master toy licensees (Tomy and Jazwares), over 100 licensees worldwide, and more than 700 products, including apparel, books, stationery, and sleepwear. In November 2016, French publisher Flammarion released a collection of four small books and one
